十Christian Japan
Sources

What we rely on, and how sure we are

Every fact on Christian Japan carries a footnote. This page gathers the sources behind the chapters, the core research log and the compendium of local and lesser-known sources, with our reliability notes.

83 core sources102 compendium entries5 chapter bibliographies

How we cite

One fact, one footnote

Every sentence that states a fact points to a numbered source on its page. Tap the number to read the citation.

Labels for uncertainty

Disputed Sources disagree. We give the competing versions and their sources.Tradition Handed down in the community or in later accounts, but not confirmed by a contemporary record.Unverified Claimed in a source, but we have not yet found independent confirmation.

What we prefer

Primary records and official heritage bodies first (national and prefectural databases, museums, the dioceses and parishes), then peer-reviewed scholarship, then local guides. Open encyclopedias such as Wikipedia are treated as leads to better sources; any still cited is flagged for replacement.
